Recording Is A Go, Except When I Can’t Make It Go
March 21st, 2010 - from andy
Dennis came over recently, to Larchmont Estates (what I’ve decided to name my studio), and Cubase captured vocal/guitar versions of The Beach and Gates, Part One.
Today I attempted to record some percussion in order to get a feel for what either song could be. I ended spending an hour trying to figure out why this or that wasn’t working.
There are nothing like technical deficiencies to make me feel stupid. Regardless, I perservered and what little was accomplished was sufficient enough to give me hope.
Now, I’m going to ruin my eyes looking through the forums at tapeop.com for answers to questions I don’t even have.
There Was, And Then There Wasn’t

Follow The Train’s record release show has been postponed so Creature Island will begin recording.
I’m not entirely certain how much will get done between now and April, though. I have some friends coming to Louisville to record for a night at The Funeral Home. I’m going to fill the role of drummist on 5 songs and I have some practicing to do.
Wish us luck and progress!
A Show Was Had

To all those who came out last night, thanks!
My left hand is healing nicely, but now my right wrist hurts.
Despite the injuries, both old and new, we had a blast.
It Still Hurts

I’m not entirely sure my hand is up to doing some drumming. Tonight we’re going to find out.
Do I push it beyond its current limits? Do I create some kind of technology to assist it? Do I get my Vicodin script refilled?
Also, I have the ability now to post video. It’s nothing major, but it is pretty cool that I can do that on my plain, old, and non-video capable 3G.
So, look for some short video clips of stuff coming soon.

While you’re waiting in line at the local coffee shop, stuck at the airport, or waiting for the staff psychiatrist to clear you to return to duty, you should be listening to “You Look Nice Today” and/or “Superego.” They’re podcasts, check them out.
My hand is progressing nicely. Should be healed in time to rock you.
We’ve Been Practicing
January 28th, 2010 - from andy
We hope to have a friend playing with us on the 20th.
In March we’ll be taking a break as Follow the Train, a band that I was in with Dennis and Carlos was also in, but with Dennis and not me, prepare for their upcoming release show (at Zanzabar, I believe). During that time I will be starting the official recording for Creature Island with some stuff that Dennis will be giving me along with some stuff we already did. This should be a really strange and exciting way to record an album and I think I speak for everyone when I say we’re pretty strange and excited about it.
Check out www.removador.com for news about the upcoming Follow the Train release, Mercury.
Until then, enjoy this video of a really great band from a long time ago:

I Think We Have A Show Coming Up

It, if it’s happening, will take place in February with C+ at Skull Alley.
I Was Thinking
January 12th, 2010 - from andy
How much do you really want to know? Do you want to hear what a song sounds like from it’s beginning as a demo to a fussed over final version? Would you like to see videos of practices or recording sessions? Pictures of us drumming or bassing or guitaring?
In reality, I don’t want your answer because I’m afraid you’ll say “NO” and out of some sense of web decorum I will acquiesce.
I think what I’m really trying to say is that this site will, hopefully, be chock full of useless/ful information in this new year. Pictures, videos, half-baked song ideas, fully-baked and seasoned songs, and musings. I promise nothing but effort, and barring that I promise the thought of effort.
It Was Close, But…

Dennis got sick, so our triumphant return to the basement has been delayed.
I don’t know what, if anything, has been written during our extended break. As for me, I have done my usual and pieced together a few chords and even a beat or two. Say, that reminds me of a joke:
What’s the last thing the band wants to hear the drummer say?
“Hey guys, wanna try one of my songs?”
Upcoming Shows
